I was on a call the other day with a criminal defense attorney who reminded me of something that I wish more people knew: the individuals he works with who are facing federal indictments don’t look like criminals. They look like us.
When we hear of someone caught up in a criminal investigation for financial fraud or we read of an arrest, often our reflexive defense kicks in. "That could never be me". We tell ourselves that only totally corrupt people end up in handcuffs. We are not the type of person who goes to jail.
It is a dangerous myth.

They are regular people who made a terrible choice because they were not equipped to navigate the challenge of the moment. Nugget: Are you concerned you may be operating in a gray area? Have a nagging doubt? Check your ego and find a qualified professional. Don’t push off asking the question or having the brutally honest conversation.
